Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud noted “comprehensive progress in strengthening the friendly and partnership relations between the countries” in the letter addressed to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov.

The message is dated to the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the countries.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia paid special attention to the further bringing the bilateral relations to a new level in the interests of our countries and peoples,” the King stressed.
The Saudi Kingdom was one of the first countries to recognize Turkmenistan’s independence and establish diplomatic relations with the Caspian state. Embassy of Saudi Arabia was opened in Ashgabat in 1997.

Berdymuhamedov’s official visit to Saudi Arabia was held in April 2007. Bilateral documents are signed between the two countries – general agreement on bilateral cooperation and agreement on cooperation between chambers of commerce of both countries.

The two countries are exploring the possibility of partnership in energy sector, cement and other building materials, as well as in agriculture, including animal husbandry, cultivation of grain and forage crops.
